Open to the Public

Board Meetings

The Washington County Public Library Board of Trustees meets the third Wednesday of every month at 4:00 PM at the library, located at 333 West Main Street. All community members are welcome to attend. If a patron wishes to speak at a meeting, they must notify the Library Director 24 hours in advance. Patrons may contact the Director at: director@wcplky.org.

The Kentucky Open Meetings Act guarantees the public’s right to attend board meetings. While the board may adopt reasonable rules to manage meeting length and presentation time, these rules are designed to keep meetings productive without restricting free speech or democratic participation.

A few exceptions apply. Library board meetings must remain open to the public except in these specific instances:

→ Deliberations on the buying or selling of real property
→ Discussion of proposed or pending litigation against or on behalf of the board
→ Discussions or hearings that might lead to the appointment, discipline, or dismissal of an individual employee (this exception does not permit discussion of general personnel matters in secret, and does not restrict an employee's right to request a public hearing)

Open to the Public

Board Meetings

All public records are open for inspection, including library board meeting minutes, budgets, and annual reports. This does not include patron records, which remain confidential under Kentucky law.
